§ Mr. TippingTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the cost of training flights in the Vulcan bomber since September 1992; and what is the estimated cost of keeping the Vulcan in a flightworthy condition until September 1993.
§ Mr. AitkenThe additional cost of operating and maintaining the aircraft between 20 September 1992 (the date of its last display) and 26 February 1993 (its most recent flight) was approximately £3,600. The Vulcan would require a major service to continue display flying. This would cost at least £2.5 million and the aircraft would not be available for the 1993 display season.
