Lord Clinton-Davis

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much investment is planned for transport infrastructure to the end of the century in:

  1. (a) the United Kingdom,
  2. (b) Germany and
  3. (c) France.

The Earl of Caithness

Our expenditure plans for transport for the period 1993–94 to 1995–96 are set out in detail in the Department of Transport Report 1993, Cm 2206. Over this period planned public sector investment in roads and public transport infrastructure amounts to just over £16 billion, as follows:

£ million
National roads, England 5,808
Central government support to local authorities 3,305
Fixed asset investment by transport nationalised industries:
British Rail 3,180
London Transport 3,253
Civil Aviation Authority 457

We do not have comparable information about planned transport infrastructure investment in France and Germany.
