To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what further consultations his Department has undertaken on the future structure of police forces in England and Wales.

My right hon. and learned Friend is considering what reforms in police organisation and structure may be needed and will announce his proposals as soon as possible. The interested parties will be consulted before final decisions are reached.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his letter following his answer of 14 January,Official Report, column 796, on civil action which results either in court awards or in out-of-court settlements against Metropolitan police officers, what action was taken against officers involved in the cases where either the settlement or damages amounted to £10,000 or more.

Disciplinary action taken against Metropolitan police officers is a matter for the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.

HM inspectorate of constabularly continues to monitor the implementation by forces of guidance issued by the Home Office on equal opportunities policies, including career development and staff appraisal systems.
