HL Deb 11 March 1993 vol 543 c66WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they intend to announce the numbers of proposed closures of acute hospital beds in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Fraser of Carmyllie)

No decisions have been taken to reduce the numbers of acute beds in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Liverpool.

Acute services in Edinburgh and Glasgow are matters primarily for Lothian and Greater Glasgow Health Boards respectively. Both boards are currently undertaking reviews of their acute services, the outcomes of which will be the subject of public consultations in due course.

Liverpool District Health Authority's proposal for the future of accident and emergency services and associated acute services are currently the subject of public consultation which continues until 31st March 1993. Only when the authority has had an opportunity to consider all the comments received will a decision be taken.
