§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the President of the Board of Trade (1) when he expects the safety-related plant status monitoring system to be fully integrated into the control systems of nuclear power stations;
(2) what action he is taking to ensure that Nuclear Electric has carried out full safety checks on its safety-related plant status monitoring system; and if he will make a statement;
(3) if he will list the nuclear power stations where the safety-related plant status monitoring system (a) has been installed and (b) is under consideration for installation.
§ Mr. EggarI understand that Nuclear Electric—NE—proposes to employ the plant status monitoring system—STATUS—to augment current administrative procedures at their nuclear power plant for assessing that adequate safety systems remain available whenever equipment is temporarily taken out of service for maintenance purposes. STATUS is neither a protection nor a control system, and is currently at the trial stage and not yet in operational use at any of NE's plant. Before the system is put into operation it will require the agreement of the Health and Safety Executive's nuclear installations inspectorate. NE has not yet asked the NII to consider the matter.
