§ Mr. Morgan
To ask the President of the Board of Trade what recent research has been undertaken into the levels of Japanese and United States investment in the United Kingdom and the factors encouraging or discouraging such investment.
§ Mr. Sainsbury
[holding answer 9 March 1993]: Specifically commissioned research into the levels of Japanese and United States investment in the United Kingdom is not necessary since information on this is reported regularly by various governmental and other bodies.
My Department's Invest in Britain Bureau commissions research from consultants to assist its promotion of the United Kingdom as the preferred location for manufacturing investment in Europe. This information is not published as it is commercially sensitive and would be of value to competitors.
