§ Mr. CousinsTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will publish the full terms of the US-EC Airbus agreement(a) in respect of aircraft engines and (b) in respect of other matters.
Mr. Sainsbury [holding answer 8 March 1993]: Since the agreement applies only to support offered for the development of the airframes of large civil aircraft, it does not contain provisions relating to aero-engines. However, the agreement commits the signatories to seek its multilateralisation and its expansion to cover aircraft of all sizes, engines and equipment, through the GATT agreement on trade in civil aircraft. Negotiations are currently under way on this extension.
Copies of the agreement between the United States and the European Community have been available in the Library of the House since 23 June 1992. The text is also available on request from my Department.
