To ask the Secretary of State for Education if he will list each of the non-departmental Government bodies and other bodies to which he makes appointments, with the names of all appointees and dates on which they were appointed; what is the selection procedure for appointments in each case; and whether any Minister in his Department interviews those being considered before appointment.

The details requested are as follows. The selection of candidates for appointment to the Department's public bodies follows procedures recommended by the Cabinet Office in the "Guide on Public Appointments Procedures" published in September 1992. Ministers conduct interviews with candidates in those cases where they consider it to be appropriate.
