§ Mr. Llew SmithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will publish an explanation of note (1) to section A of his departmental press notice P/93/51 of 4 February on plutonium production and stockpile figures, on why exact figures for the plutonium content of fuel discharged and dispatched cannot be given.
§ Mr. EggarIt is not practicable to make direct measurements of the plutonium content of fuel rods at the power station. Accordingly, the figures in question are estimates, calculated using reactor physics computer codes, based on the characteristics of the fresh fuel and the output of the reactor since the fuel was loaded. The error margin specified reflects the accuracy of this estimating process.
