HC Deb 09 March 1993 vol 220 cc547-8W
Mr. Morley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the average percentage mortality figure for upland lambs during the lambing season.

Mr. Curry

The average mortality rate for upland lambs—exluding losses at birth—is estimated at 15 per cent. Actual rates will however vary significantly depending upon a number of factors, including climate, age and nutritional status of the ewe, lamb birth weight and husbandry.
