§ Mr. ForthThere is very wide support for the national curriculum, including the assessment arrangements that are an essential part of it. There is evidence that its implementation is already improving standards in the teaching of English, but that there is room for still further improvement. That is why my right hon. Friend commissioned a review of the English order.
