§ Mr. AshdownTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is the effect of the use of Chelec units in his Department at Bath on energy saving for his Department;544W what sum is being saved to the Exchequer by the use of he Chelec unit; and what proposals he has to adopt this unit in other of his Department's establishments.
§ Mr. AitkenA Chelec heating control energy saver unit has been installed on a trial basis in one of our buildings in Bath. Evaluation of the device over the course of a complete heating season is still in progress. Wider use of this or similar devices will depend on the outcome of such evaluation exercises and on their being suitable for the type of heating installation involved. It is too early to say what savings might accrue or whether this unit will be adopted in other establishments or buildings.
