HC Deb 09 March 1993 vol 220 c467W
Mr. Robert Banks

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what consideration has been given to the setting up of a royal commission to investigate the operation of the courts.

Mr. John M. Taylor

No consideration has been given to the setting up of a royal commission to investigate the operation of the courts.

The operation of the criminal courts comes within the remit of the Royal Commission on Criminal Justice which was established in 1991 to examine the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in England and Wales. The royal commission's report is expected in June.
