To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many babies were born by Caesarean section in hospitals in Scotland during each year since 1970; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 4 March 1993]: The number of recorded deliveries by Caesarean section for the years 1975–92 is given in the table. Comparable information for 1970–74 is not available centrally.
