To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been public spending on health and on education in each year since 1975 at current prices.

Table 2.2 of the statistical supplement to the 1992 autumn statement, Cm. 2219, shows general Government expenditure by function from 1978–79. Figures are also available on a national accounts basis back to 1977, in cash terms, from the CSO database in the following series, identified by their database code:

  • GTGH: General Government expenditure on Health,
  • GTGN: General Government expenditure on Education.
