HC Deb 04 March 1993 vol 220 c272W
Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to amend the law relating to amusement arcades to restrict their use by children.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Following the Home Office research study, "Amusement Machines: Dependency and Delinquency", published in July 1988, we have concluded that further legislative controls on the use of amusement machines by young people are not justified, although we continue to keep the need for legislation under review.

Mr. Trimble

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has for the prevention of the manufacture and use of gaming machines which can be adjusted to make illegal pay-outs.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

None. We are satisfied that the enforcement powers of both the police and Gaming Board under the Gaming Act 1968 are sufficient to tackle any breaches of that Act as it relates to gaming machines.
