To ask the Secretary of Stale for Scotland if he will make a statement on the latest Scottish export statistics.

Mr. Stewart

The Scottish Council Development. and Industry published the results of its latest annual survey of Scottish manufacturing exports in November 1992. This is the most comprehensive source of information on Scottish manufactured exports.

In 1991 the value of Scottish manufacturing exports reached its highest ever level of £8.8 billion and this represented a 3 per cent. increase in current value.

Scotland exports more per head of population than the United Kingdom and, in 1991, the value of manufacturing exports for each Scottish worker was £23,000—some 19 per cent. above the United Kingdom figures.
