To ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has for future funding of the Coal Research Establishment.

The future funding of clean coal technology and the role of Coal Research Establishment in developing this technology is under discussion as part of our work on the coal review.

Mr. Tipping

To ask the President of the Board of Trade when he last visited the Coal Research Establishment.

Mr. Eggar

I have not visited the Coal Research Establishment. However, my chief scientific adviser on science and technology visited the establishment on 29 January 1993.
