§ Mr. TippingTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many complaints he has received about the "Helping the Earth" television and newspaper advertisements.
§ Mr. Maclean[holding answer 26 February 1993]: Since the "Helping the Earth Begins at Home" campaign began in November 1991, two complaints have been put to my Department through the Advertising Standards Authority about press advertisements. The first of these complaints was upheld by the authority, the second was dropped.
One letter complaining about the campaign's television advertisement was recently forwarded to the Department by the Independent Television Commission and has now been answered. Four other written complaints have been received by my Department from members of the public regarding the campaign's press and other television advertisement.
