HL Deb 23 June 1993 vol 547 c12WA
The Earl of Kimberley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In the light of their acceptance of the importance of salmon and sea trout angling to the Scottish economy, to state whether through the Crown Estate Commissioners they intend to continue the practice of netting migrating fish, and if so, why.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Fraser of Carmyllie)

The Crown Estate Commissioners, who are not a government department, recognise the importance of salmon and sea trout angling to the Scottish economy and will continue to review their policies and operations in line with national legislation and their responsibilities under the Crown Estate Act 1961.
