§ Mr. Dunnachie
To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to increase housing facilities for the elderly to enable the implementation of community care programmes; and if he will make a statement.
§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
[holding answer 21 June 1993 ]: Housing for the elderly is provided by public sector landlords, housing associations and the private sector. Guidelines on housing for the elderly were published in 1991 and Scottish Homes published its discussion paper on housing for the elderly in May.
Very substantial resources totalling some £900 million have been made available to local authorities, Scottish Homes and new town development corporations for capital investment in housing in 1993–94, including projects relating to the elderly.
