§ Ms PrimaroloTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the number of dentists by family health services authority and in total who have given notice of their intention to deregister adults and children in the last two years.
§ Dr. MawhinneyThe information available centrally is the number of dentists, by family health services authority and in total, who have given notice to deregister patients since 3 July 1992. This is shown in the table. We are advised by family health services authorities that they are able to assist patients who seek their help in obtaining national health service dentistry. Since July 1992 total registrations have increased by 2.63 per cent. from 27,314,952 to 28,034,677 as at 30 April 1993.
Deregistration can occur for a number of reasons for example, patients moving away from the area, or dentists retiring and can be instigated by dentists or patients.
