An estimate of absence from work due to workplace injury is available for the year 1989–90 from the special supplement of questions on accidents to the 1990 Labour Force Survey. An estimated 23.2 million days absence occurred in Great Britain in 1989–90. This figure is equivalent to about 170 million hours lost for a five day working week of 37 hours.
