HC Deb 14 June 1993 vol 226 cc470-1W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many of the explosive devices cleared from the north Gower marshes in 1992 were transported to Porton Down for decontamination.

Mr. Hanley

This is a matter for the chief executive of the Chemical and Biological Defence Establishment (CBDE) and I have asked him to reply.

Letter from Dr. Graham S. Pearson to Mr. Gareth Wardell, dated 14 June 1993: 1. Your Parliamentary Question to the Secretary of State for Defence asking how many of the explosive devices cleared from the North Gower marshes in 1992 were transported to Porton Down for decontamination (Question 11, Order Paper, 8 June 1993) has been passed to me to reply as Chief Executive of the Chemical and Biological Defence Establishment. 2. A total of 29 explosive devices, all shells, suspected of containing or possibly containing materials requiring decontamination and disposal were transported to CBDE in 1992. It has since been confirmed that none contained chemical warfare agents.
