To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people were diagnosed as suffering from bone cancer in England in each of the last 10 years; and if she will make a statement.

The number of cases of bone cancer (International Classification of Diseases, ninth revision, code 170) registered in England in each of the years 1979 to 1987, the last year for which information is available, is shown in the table.

Number of cases for earlier years (1971 to 1978) are available, and can be found in the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys publication 'Cancer statistics: registrations' series MB1 nos. 1–10; comparisons with figures for 1979 onwards, however, will be affected by the change from the 8th revision of the ICD to the 9th revision.
