HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 cc1005-6W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many new members have been admitted to the United Nations over the past 18 months; how many remain excluded from a regional group; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Twenty-five new members have been admitted to the United Nations since the beginning of 1991. Five of these states—Estonia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia—have not yet joined a regional group. We would expect them to join the geographically most appropriate group in each case in due course.
