§ Mr. Cohen
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he is intending in relation to paragraph 3.6 of the Police Complaints Authority report 1992 concerning the continued misuse of the police national computer; whether the procedures, recommended by a report to Parliament and published by the authority in 1986—HC 425—have been implemented; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Charles Wardle
The arrangements for the protection of police national computer data against misuse by police officers are the responsibility of individual chief officers. The Association of Chief Police Officers published a code of practice for police computer systems in December 1987, in which the recommendations of the Police Complaints Authority report of 1986 were taken into account. The procedures for auditing use of the PNC are being considered further by ACPO in conjunction with the Home Office.
§ Mr. Maclean
Court proceedings information held centrally under the Data Protection Act 1984 and Computer Misuse Act 1990 does not distinguish as to the employment or professional status of the offender.
