HL Deb 26 July 1993 vol 548 c73WA
Lord Simon of Glaisdale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many of (a) the 300 persons identified by the Heatherington-Chalmers Report as the subjects of allegations of war crimes; and (b) the further 86 persons made the subject of such allegations directly to the Metropolitan Police War Crimes Unit, are now dead, or considered unfit to stand trial.

Earl Ferrers

Eighty of the 300 persons who were identified by the Heatherington-Chalmers Report, and 23 of those who were later made the subject of allegations, are now dead. It is not possible to say how many of those who are the subjects of allegations of war crimes are considered unfit to stand trial. Such decisions will only be taken when, and if, sufficient evidence becomes available for prosecutions to be brought.
