asked Her Majesty's Government:
What is the amount of net Government spending on the Social Fund, excluding loan repayments and the cost of administration.

The Social Fund net discretionary budget is currently £135— million a rise of £5 million since April 1992. This is a 35 per cent. increase on the net budget at April 1991 and demonstrates the Government's continuing commitment to maintaining the Social Fund budget at a level which helps very large numbers of people.
