Lord Harris of Greenwich

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many mental health assessment and diversion schemes at magistrates' courts have so far received Home Office funding towards sessional costs of psychiatrists and community psychiatric nurses; what is the total amount of Home Office funding made available for this purpose; and what is the total amount allocated to date.

Earl Ferrers

Twenty three such schemes have so far been allocated funding totalling £484,000. The amount, which is made available for this purpose in the current financial year, is £500,000. It is planned to increase this to £1 million in 1994–95.
