§ Sir George YoungThe homelessness code of guidance for local authorities—Third edition—advises that bed-and-breakfast accommodation should be used only as a692W last resort, and that care should be taken in ensuring that all forms of temporary accommodation meet acceptable standards. The number of homeless households placed in bed-and-breakfast accommodation has reduced significantly over the last 12 months, and now accounts for only a small proportion of those placed in temporary accommodation.
