HL Deb 22 July 1993 vol 548 c62WA
Earl Russell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in the light of the statement in paragraph 4.11 of The Growth of Social Security that the factors behind the increase in the number of lone parents include 'changes . . . in the relative economic prospects of young men and women', they have formed any estimate of how changes in spending on lone parents might be affected by changes in the level of adult male unemployment.

Lord Henley

The assumptions underlying the analysis of lone parent expenditure included inThe Growth of Social Security are in the table.

Level of unemployment (millions) Growth of Lone Parent Expenditure by 1999/2000 (£ billions)
1.50 2.8
2.25 3.3
3.00 3.9

Note:

No separate assumptions were made about the level of adult male unemployment.
