§ Mr. MandelsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the timetable for implementing local government reorganisation in the first tranche of local authorities.
§ Mr. BaldryWe have announced that any new structure for the Isle of Wight would be implemented on 1 April 1995. The timing of implementation in other first tranche areas will depend on the nature of the final recommendations.
§ Mr. MandelsonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the future of the review and reorganisation of local government in Cleveland.
§ Mr. BaldryThe Local Government Commission is currently preparing its final report on the review of Cleveland and Durham, which is due to be submitted by 21 November. The Secretary of State will then consider whether the recommendations should be implemented. The final decision on any changes rests with Parliament.
