§ Mr. SalmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will provide details of the current number of Royal Navy nuclear submarines which have been decommissioned, specifying the dockyard which had undertaken the decommissioning and the relevant date, together with the current docking arrangements; and how many such vessels he now expects to be decommissioned within the next 10 years.
§ Mr. AitkenThe location of each nuclear-powered submarine which has left Royal Navy service is provided in the table. All these submarines, except HMS Revenge, have completed the process of defuelling, de-equipping and lay-up preparations; details of the locations where this took place are also provided. It is not our practice to reveal in advance details of plans for decommissioning nuclear powered submarines.
