HC Deb 20 July 1993 vol 229 cc135-6W
Mr. Richards

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures are being taken in Wales to tackle child prostitution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The chief constables of the four Welsh police forces are not aware of any widespread problem of child prostitution in Wales. Wherever it is suspected, they tackle it with a combination of high-profile uniform patrols and discreet observation.

The police also work very closely with local authorities and voluntary agencies in order to identify any abuse of children and in order to give high priority to the protection of the children involved.
