As Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service, it is my responsibility to answer questions about relevant operational matters. I am therefore replying to your recent Question asking what was the average daily prison population at the latest date for which figures are available and in the previous 5 years.On 25 June 1993 the actual population was 5772. The average population for the current financial year so far, ie 1 April 1993 to 25 June 1993 is 5827. The average population for the five previous financial years is as follows:723W
