§ 26. Mr. BarnesTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received in the current financial year calling for an increase in income taxes; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DorrellWe have received a number of representations concerning the rates of income tax; some of these favour an increase in the rates and some favour a decrease. It remains the Government's objective to move towards a basic rate of 20 per cent. when it is prudent to do so.
