§ Mr. McLoughlin[holding answer 9 July 1993]: Studies by the Radiocommunications Agency show that the new generation digital mobile telephones may cause interference to hearing aids. The Wireless Telegraphy Act licences for operators of these systems require them to minimise transmitter power and so reduce the potential for interference. In addition my Department is encouraging manufacturers to improve the immunity of hearing aids.
