§ Mr. WigleyTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures showing the level of real value added in manufacturing per person employed, according to annual percentage growth for the periods(a) 1979 to 1983 and (b) 1983 to 1989 for (i) the United Kingdom, (ii) France, (iii) West Germany, (iv) Japan, (v) the United States of America and (vi) the average of all OECD countries.
§ Mr. NelsonThe information requested for OECD countries is contained in "Industrial Structure Statistics" published by OECD, Paris, copies of which are available from the Library of the House for the period up to 1990. Except for France, the published figures are available at current prices only. For other countries they could be provided at constant prices only at disproportionate cost. The published statistics on value added and employment can be used to produce value added figures per person employed, expressed at current prices only. These are set out in the table.
