To ask the Prime Minister how many letters he received from individuals concerned that third world needs would not be discussed at the Edinburgh summit.

I have been asked to reply.

My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister received a number of representations. Issues of major concern to developing countries were discussed, including the need for a successful conclusion to the GATT negotiations and for renewed growth in the economies of the European Community. Both of these would help to increase the export earnings of many developing countries significantly.
