§ Mr. Leigh[holding answer 14 January 1993]: Club research and development is one of a number of forms of collaboration accepted by the Department of Trade and Industry when providing financial assistance towards innovative research and development carried out by companies. It caters for collaborative efforts where one organisation undertakes the work on behalf of a number of others who contribute to the costs. It does not constitute a scheme on which separate expenditure figures are collected.
