§ Mr. Alex Carlile
To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what plans she has to increase the profile and the role of the careers service; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mr. Michael Forsyth
New legislation which opens up a range of options for management of careers services is proposed in clause 33 of the Trade Union Reform and Employment Rights Bill. These options are intended to make careers services more responsive to local needs and conditions.
The Government intend to set and ensure the meeting of challenging standards of service. Careful attention is being paid to the issue of quality in the context of the arrangements resulting from the new legislation.
