To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what action his Department is taking to help carers who have gone into debt as a result of the delays in payments of disability living allowance.

Mr. Scott

Income Support is available under the normal rules for anyone who otherwise would be left without funds.

Furthermore an award of invalid care allowance may be backdated for up to 12 months provided that entitlement to disability living allowance has been established for the relevant period.
