§ Mr. McNamaraTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what regulations exist preventing or limiting the employment of citizens from(a) the Republic of Ireland, (b) other European Community countries and (c) Commonwealth nations in the Northern Ireland civil service.
§ Mr. Mates[holding answer 22 January 1993]: Rules relating to the conditions under which persons may be appointed to the Northern Ireland civil service are set out in the Northern Ireland Civil Service Commission General Regulations 1991, a copy of which has been placed in the House of Commons Library.
In the case of citizens of Commonwealth nations a work permit under the Immigration Act 1971 is required.
