§ 35. Mr. Martyn JonesTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what plans he has to bring forward further legislation in the area of consumer protection.
§ Mr. LeighThe Government's manifesto for the 1992 general election included commitments to introduce legislation designed to give consumers confidence that what they purchase is properly described, to ensure that adequate compensation is offered where these requirements are not met, to enable the courts to override unfair terms in contracts, to improve powers to deal with rogue traders, and to amend the law relating to guarantees. Legislation to implement these commitments will be introduced as soon as parliamentary time permits.
