HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 c63W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment his Department has made of methods used in North American cities to reduce traffic congestion in urban areas.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

My Department keeps in touch with the methods used overseas, both in North America and elsewhere. Conditions overseas are not necessarily the same as in this country, and techniques—for example, the width and layout of roads—may need to be modified considerably before they can be used here.
