§ Mr. RaynsfordTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a table showing the total number of homes for renting by housing associations which have been approved by the Housing Corporation under its approved development programme in each of the years for 1987–88 to 1992–93, and his estimate of approvals in financial year 1993–94.
§ Mr. BaldryThe total number of homes for renting approved under the Housing Corporation's approved development programme since 1987–88, and the Housing Corporation's estimates for 1992–93 and 1993–94, are as follows:
Number 1987–88 16,518 1988–89 19,959 1989–90 16,198 1990–91 13,751 1991–92 43,583 1992–93 40,600 1993–94 27,600 The reduction in approvals in 1993–94 is partly the result of the corporation's response to requests from housing associations for a higher proportion of cash-backing for projects in the year in which they are approved.
In addition to the provision of new homes for rent, the corporation also funds tenants incentive (TIS) grants and 118W do-it-yourself home ownership (DIYSO) schemes which release existing rental accommodation for reletting to the homeless. All of TIS and 60 per cent. of DIYSO is targeted in this way. The figures for TIS and DIYSO are as follows:
TIS DIYSO 1990–91 1,654 — 1991–92 3,241 116 1992–93 3,400 3,800 1993–94 5,400 4,400 In addition to the above figures, the housing market package announced in the Chancellor's autumn statement is expected to produce over 17,000 homes for rent and up to 2,000 TIS grants.
§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the Housing Corporation's rented housing programme by London borough for each year since 1964 in actual prices and in 1993 prices.
§ Mr. BaldryThis information cannot be provided other than at disproportionate cost.
