HC Deb 18 January 1993 vol 217 c101W
29. Mr. Norman Hogg

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many households are having their mortgage interest payments met by his Department: and what the cost will be of these payments in 1992–93.

Mr. Burt

The latest available information indicates a total of 411,000 income support recipients receiving help with mortgage interest payments at a cost of £949 million. This is derived from the May 1991 income support annual statistical enquiry, a copy of which is in the Library. Estimates on the cost to the Department of these payments in 1992–93 are not yet available.
