§ Mr. GoodladRelations between the United Kingdom and Japan are excellent. They are marked by regular contacts between British and Japanese Ministers and senior officials. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister had a constructive and friendly meeting with Prime Minister Miyazawa in July. Since the mid-1980s our trading relationship has greatly improved, with a considerable increase in British exports to Japan over that period. There is a longstanding and continuing welcome for Japanese investment in the United Kingdom. We aim to broaden and improve the relationship yet further.
