HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c534W
Mr. Austin-Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when he last had discussions with the European Commissioner for the Environment on the application of the Community's environmental rules to the United Kingdom road programmes.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

During the United Kingdom presidency, my right hon. Friend met Mr. van Miert, then Commissioner for Transport and the Environment, on a number of occasions to discuss various matters including the national road programme in England. Trunk roads in the rest of the United Kingdom are the responsibility of the Secretaries of State for Scotland, for Wales and for Northern Ireland.
